This prestigious funding will allow our research group to establish a cutting-edge laboratory dedicated to the study of electronic states in quantum materials.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"791\">By combining <strong data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"657\">angle-resolved direct and inverse photoemission spectroscopy<\/strong>, we will achieve an unprecedented level of precision in mapping the electronic band structure of solids around the <strong data-start=\"773\" data-end=\"788\">Fermi level<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"1224\">The key innovation of <strong data-start=\"815\" data-end=\"825\">abovEF<\/strong> lies in its ability to probe <strong data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"909\">unoccupied electronic states above the Fermi level<\/strong>\u2014a largely unexplored yet crucial component in determining the electronic and magnetic properties of materials. Unlike occupied states below the Fermi level, which are naturally populated by electrons, unoccupied states require precise electron injection for observation\u2014a process that is technically challenging.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1692\">Inverse photoemission spectroscopy was originally developed several decades ago and then largely abandoned due to severe technical difficulties that limited the quality of the measurements. With <strong data-start=\"1431\" data-end=\"1441\">abovEF<\/strong>, we aim to <strong data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1543\">enhance the energy resolution by a factor of 10 and the sensitivity by a factor of 100<\/strong>, setting a new benchmark for this technique. This breakthrough will enable us to conduct experiments with <strong data-start=\"1650\" data-end=\"1689\">unprecedented clarity and precision<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1694\" data-end=\"2046\">While our approach can be applied to a wide range of materials, <strong data-start=\"1758\" data-end=\"1768\">abovEF<\/strong> will focus on two particularly exciting areas: <strong data-start=\"1816\" data-end=\"1853\">two-dimensional quantum materials<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1858\" data-end=\"1894\">high-temperature superconductors<\/strong>.
